As the year comes to a close and we all take some time to reflect on what has been and dream about what’s to come, I would like to thank you for being with us on this journey.

I thank you for believing in us, trusting us with your work, celebrating our milestones with us, for being patient with us when we let you down and for never writing us off when we take too long to deliver. Every year, every book, every television show has been a chance to do good work and learn great lessons, we are proud to have added our voice to the story of our country and our continent.

This year, we published Zukiswa Wanner’s Hardly Working: A Travel Memoir of Sorts, as well as two beautiful editions of Poetry Potion. We also published two anthologies from our Writivism partners Transcending the Flame (free to download here) and Odokonyero. We exhibited our published titles at the annual London Book Fair and the Frankfurt Book Fair.

In the television realm, we returned to write and edit scripts on one of South Africa’s excoting daily dramas The Queen and we joined the new team of The Throne. Baby Mamas, a film we script edited, produced by the awesome Sorele Media team Stephina Zwane (writer/director) and Salamina Mosese, premiered to rave reviews. We head wrote and worked with the inimitable Portia Gumede on the Housekeepers series.

As we head into the new year, we are full of hope that this journey will be more enjoyable and more fruitful for all of us. We have some work to do in order to become better. We plan to improve all around – to fix what we didn’t get right in 2018 and do better what we already do well. We have some work in the pipeline – our annual short story anthology The Short Story is Dead, Long Live the Short Story (we’re announcing the shortlist ans winners soon), Writivism anthologies, to mention a few, as well as some TV projects that we can’t wait to share with you, which we hope you’ll enjoy and love.

We believe in story — be it on television, in a book or on a website — we believe in great African stories. We believe in stories that challenge the status quo, that challenge us to review what we beleive and think, and inspire us to dream of and work for a better Africa. There are so many untold stories, so much to tell, so much to share, so much more work to do in order shift our culture and our times.

They say, until the lion learns to speak, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter. At Black Letter Media we say: here, lions tell their own stories.

Thank you for all your support. Please do continue to do so by watching our shows and by buying our titles from our online shop, Amazon, Exclusive Books, Adams Books, African Flavour Books, Clarke’s Books, Book Lounge, Bridge Books and other good book stores.
