After a long wait, we have announced the winning story at an event at the Jozi Book Fair.

The prize, which will be awarded annually, was judged by Lineo Segoete, Makhozana Xaba, Dilman Dila and Duduzile Mabaso.

There were seven shortlisted writers, from which two stories placed second and a winner was picked.

The two runners-up will each receive R1000 and they are:

Christine Coates for A Night to Remember and Mapule Mohulatsi for Circles

The winner for the R5000 prize is:

Obinna Udenwe for Men Are Fools

The stories will be published in the second volume of The Short Story is Dead, Long Live the Short Story! Vol 2. The publishing date and launch event will be launched.
